HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
TICH's Health Sciences department promotes
quality preventive and rehabilitative health care that is acceptable,
affordable and appropriate to individuals, families and communities. By
bridging academics with practical living, our aim is to reduce the
burden of disease through high quality research programs, training and
services, and the development, testing and replication of health care
models by networking with professionals, practitioners, communities and
institutions at all levels.
Specific objectives
·
Promote preventive and promotive health services through rational
community based health care services.
·
Conduct operational research in Health and Community Development
·
Establish a regional pharmaceutical store giving individuals,
families and communities access to essential drugs.
Organizational structure
For effective management and coodination of
acitivities, the department is divided into sections with each section
head reporting to the head of the department, who reports to the
Director of TICH.

ACADEMICS DEPARTMENT
Academics is headed by the Training
coordinator, who is responsible for coordinating the Health sciences
curriculum. The department head is assisted by course coordinators
depending on courses taught, including Nursing, Pharmacy, Family
Medicine , Tropical Medicine, Community health, etc. Specific tasks
include:

Design and develop course curriculum and content
·
Market the courses and coordinate admissions
·
Advice on recruitment of necessary manpower
·
Coordinate teaching of the courses including supervision during
practical
·
Examination
The Training coordinator works closely with
the Head of Faculty of Health Sciences and the Director of TICH to
synchronize the academic programs.
PHARMACEUTICALS DEPARTMENT
This department, headed by the
Pharmaceuticals Manager, is responsible for managing the Regional
Pharmaceutical Store. Specific tasks include:

Procurement and distribution of drugs and other medical supplies
·
Establish a regional network for drugs supply
·
Advice on recruitment of desirable staff
·
Supervision of pharmacy students attached to the store
·
Coordinate with the satellite drug stores
PRIMARY HEALTH CARE DIVISION
Responsible for coordinating Community based
health care in the partnership areas, the primary health care division
is headed by the Community Based Services Manager who is assisted by
sectional heads responsible for specific service areas, e.g. Home
Based/Palliative Care, Drug Supplies to Community Pharmacies, Community
Based training, etc.
Specific tasks include:

Establish community linkages for partnerships
·
Establish and strengthen community based health systems
including drug supplies
·
Coordinate training of CHWs, CORPs and LTRPs
·
Rebuild social support systems
